Tragedy outside Politics

I am certainly no political supporter of our Senator Gordon Smith. But today I lay aside all of those feelings and send my condolences to him and his wife and his family. Yesterday, Smith's 21-year old son Garrett committed suicide. This is such a terrible tragedy, and an example of how crippling severe depression can be. Having suffered depression that led to suicide's doorsteps when I was in my late teens, I can imagine the dark cloud that haunted young Garrett. I wish the Smith family peace and comfort during this terrible time of loss.
